A Matter Of Choice

Was on my way home when I ran into a former student. Nothing unusual as I do bump into some of them once in a while but what I saw this time really shock me. Not only did the student dressed up as a guy but was also behaving like one. There wasn't anything wrong with the dressing or behaviour except that the student in question is supposed to be a 'she' not a 'he'. She is what some would call a 'butch'. Though I have known her to be quite boyish in school, always in her crew cut, to see her embracing another girl in a manner a guy would do to his stead, is not what I would expect her to become. She didn't notice me as she was busy with her so called 'stead'. Couldn't get myself to acknowledge her, something I would normally do if I see any familiar face. I just couldn't imagine how she would react being seen with a girl in her arms. I wouldn't want to embarrass her nor would I want to be embarrassed. I continued on with my journey home but couldn't help thinking what would become of her and her stead. Why would any girl want to take the place of a guy? Why would a girl accept another girl as a guy? Are they really happy together? Or is it just some sort of a temporary arrangement to enjoy each other company? We live in a democratic society and are free to choose the kind of life that we want to lead. Most would choose to lead very normal, average life while some go to the extreme of developing intimate relationship with member of the same sex. Nothing new you might think, especially when gay parties are quite common now but how far can this sort of relationship go? Have it ever occur to them that they could never form a normal family? Though it's acceptable, at least to me, to have a crush on somebody of the same sex especially after having been deceived by one of the opposite sex, it's not mentally healthy to develop such crush into a 'love affair'. I do not despise or condemn people with such special preference, it's just a matter of choice, but I would advise them to give themselves a chance to lead a normal life with people of the opposite sex. We are already living in a chaotic world, why create more confusion by going against natural?
